Best Life diet

Goal: to lose weight

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

Best Life Diet

The Best Life diet was made famous by Oprah Winfrey and Bob Greene. The diet consists of three phases and these phases you eat three meals a day. Additionally, you eat at least one snack a day, drink plenty of water and take supplements (for example: multivitamins, omega-3 and calcium).

On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

Phase 1

The first phase of this diet is called 'baby steps' and lasts a minimum of 4 weeks. You prepare yourself for losing weight by exercising more. It is important that you eat breakfast rich in fibres and calcium and that you eat healthy snacks. The last two hours of the day you are not allowed to eat anything.

You also avoid the 6 'problem foods' in this phase. These are alcohol, soft drinks, fried foods, white bread, whole milk and yoghurt.

Phase 2

The second phase is called 'get moving' and lasts for a minimum of 4 weeks. Here, you are supposed to eat fewer calories per day and exercise more. You will also need to consider the size of your portions.

Just like in phase 1, you are not allowed to eat the 6 'problem foods'. There is one exception: depending on how much extra exercise you do, you are allowed to eat something extra. This can be anything you like. Simply put: you deserve a nice snack if you exercise more than you should. You are basically not allowed to snack more calories than you burn.

Phase 3

The final phase is called 'Your best life' and is supposed to last for the rest of your life. You will exercise a little more than in the second phase and eat less saturated fat, less sodium and less products with added sugars. On the contrary, you will eat more lean proteins, whole grains and vegetables.
