Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.
The Mojito Diet was created by Dr. Juan Rivera. The name 'Mojito Diet' is a reference to Miami, where the Mojito is a popular drink (according to Rivera).
Besides the fact that Miami plays a role in the diet, it has a strong Latin and Central American part.
On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

If you follow the Mojito diet, you eat a lot of proteins and little carbohydrates (especially in the 'Grain drop week'). In the second week (the 'Clean 16 Fast' week) of the diet, there are a number of fasting days. These are days on which you do not eat anything for a part of the day. Read more about (intermittent) fasting here.
The Mojito Diet is based on the DASH diet. The difference with the DASH diet is that you are not allowed to eat grains and consume less carbohydrates (during the first week). Also, the Mojito diet focuses more on the importance of fats which are good for the heart and the healthy aspects of nuts, according to the creator of this diet.
The Mojito Diet is a 14-day diet and has 2 different weeks: The 'Grain drop' week and the 'Clean 16 Fast' week. After finishing both weeks, you start over again until you have reached your target weight.
When you have reached your target weight you will switch to the 'Mojito Maintance plan'.
In the 'Grain drop' week, as the name of the week suggests, you do not eat grains. So, among other things, you don't eat bread, pasta and rice.
What you do eat during this week is a lot of protein-rich products (think of eggs, meat, poultry, nuts, soya and dairy products) and healthy fats. Additionally, you eat fruits and vegetables, with a focus on those high in potassium (bananas, sweet potatoes and spinach are mentioned here), because, according to Rivera, these help lower your blood pressure.
In the 'Clean 16 Fast' week the focus is on fasting. In total, you fast 3 days out of 7. These aren’t following days: you fast every other day.
Here, the inventors advise fasting for 16 hours in a row on fasting day. An example: you stop eating at 20:00 and skip breakfast the next day. From 12:00 you can eat again.

Once you have reached your target weight, you switch to the 'Mojito Maintenance Plan'. This plan is designed to maintain your new weight and to teach you healthy eating habits. You eat a 'normal' healthy diet 5 days in a week. The other two days you follow a short version of the Mojito diet: one day without grains (Grain drop) and one day with 16 hours fasting (Clean 16 Fast).
As mentioned before, the name of the diet is a reference to a popular drink in Miami: Mojito. Rivera chose this name because he believes that people shouldn't give up the good things in life when following a diet and that a reward (in this case a Mojito) can help you stay motivated.
During the diet you are allowed 2 Mojitos per week. During the maintenance plan you are allowed 3 Mojitos per week. If you don't like a Mojito, you can swap it for another drink or dessert.
The book describes a 'Mojito Exercise plan', which describes how you can start exercising calmly and how you can start exercising more step by step. Since the book has a Latin American/Middle American part, Salsa dancing and Zumba are mentioned as examples of activities you can pick up.
Besides a description of the diet, the book ‘The Mojito diet’ contains 75 recipes that can be used while following the diet. The recipes have a Latin American and Central American flavour and a focus on variety and portion size.
Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any) diet.
The Mojito Diet uses the DASH diet as a basis. Another diet which is (partly) based on the DASH diet is the MIND diet.

As you see fit
A diet that does everything, both fasting, and low in carbohydrates, if not too strict. Difficult to really achieve a goal. But a diet based on unprocessed products is always a good idea. Alcohol (and food in general) as a reward is not a good idea because you can maintain emotional eating. Nicely made up title and slogan: "Lose the weight, without skipping the party!" Mojito water was also a nice idea; water with lemon/lime and mint.
With the professional help of a dietitian it should be easier to reach your goals. Please contact a dietician in your area or talk to a doctor before starting any diet.
Please take note that most diets do not have a scientific basis.
Consult your doctor or dietician before starting a diet, especially if you have a chronic condition like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, lung disease or kidney disease.
If you think you might have an eating disorder (like anorexia or bulimia), it is important to look for professional help. Contact your (house) doctor or find help elsewhere. Here you can find a list of several websites that can provide (online) help. These sites also provide information for people that know someone with an eating disorder.
