The Lemon diet

Goal: to lose weight fast and/or to detox

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The Lemon (detox) diet/Lemonade diet

The lemon diet is a detox diet and is also called the "lemon detox diet" or the "lemonade diet". There are many different versions of the diet, which differ in how you make the corresponding lemon juice, how long you should/are allowed to follow the diet and what you can/can't eat.

On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

Lemon juice

During the diet you drink lemon juice. Depending on the version of the diet the drink consists of lemon juice with lukewarm water or lemon juice with syrup and water, sometimes with cayenne pepper.

The idea is that you drink the lemon juice throughout the day and that the juice detoxifies your body. Depending on the version, you drink normal water besides the lemon juice.

From max. 5 days to 2 weeks

Besides how the lemon juice is made, the versions also differ greatly in how long you can follow the diet and how heavy it is.

The diet varies from a maximum of 5 days to 10 or 14 days. In addition, some versions allow solid foods (think of vegetables, fruits and meat), where others are limited to only lemon juice. Hence, the lemon diet can be very hard.

Be aware

Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any) diet.

Fasting and/or crash diet

The versions of the lemon juice diet in which you only consume lemon juice or combine lemon juice with a low-calorie diet, can be seen as a fasting diet. You eat nothing, or a very limited amount of calories, per day. The diet can also be considered a crash diet, as the number of calories per day is (very) limited.

Version with different phases

Another version of the lemon diet consists of three phases. In the first phase you cut out all unhealthy things from your diet and limited yourself to citrus fruits and lemon juice. You can have one piece of toast with your breakfast.

In the second phase you can only drink lemon juice (6 times a day) and in the final phase you reintroduce solid foods (like almonds or yoghurt) in your diet.
