The Herbalife weight loss programme

The Herbalife weight loss programme is a diet which uses meal replacements (shakes), Herbalife snacks and supplements to lose weight. When on this programme, you will go through two phases.

Two phases: the weight loss phase and the stabilisation phase

The Herbalife weight loss programme has a weight loss phase and a stabilisation phase. In both phases you replace meals with shakes from the Herbalife brand. You also use supplements and snacks from Herbalife.

Relatively few restrictions

The diet has few restrictions. Besides the shakes and the supplements, you can eat what you want. The advice is to drink enough water, eat fruits and vegetables and choose small, frequent and low-calorie meals.

Phase 1: the weight loss phase

In the weight loss phase you replace 2 meals a day with a shake. The third meal is a 'normal' meal. You can choose with meal is the ‘normal’ meal: lunch or dinner. Breakfast is always replaced with a shake.

Phase 2: The stabilisation phase

The stabilisation phase begins when you have reached your target weight. In this phase you replace breakfast with a Herbalife shake. The other two meals, lunch and dinner are ‘regular’ meals.

The shakes

The Herbalife meal replacements should contain around 170 calories (that includes 240ml of skimmed milk that you add to the powder).

You can, if you like, add fruits to the shake to make it a fruit shake. Several books have been published with recipes for Herbalife shakes, for example Melissa Cameron's book and Jen Taylor's book.

Different programmes

Different programmes have been devised to accompany the diet. The programmes can be aimed at losing weight, as described above, but also at gaining weight. Below are some of these programmes.

The quick start programme (for losing weight)

In the quick start programme you use, besides the shakes, supplements with multivitamins and minerals and supplements that are meant to speed up your metabolism.

The advanced programme (for losing weight)

In the advanced programme, the quick start programme is supplemented with two extra supplements. These are supplements that are intended to give you more energy and to reduce fluid retention.

The ultimate programme (for losing weight)

The ultimate programme is a combination of the fast and the advanced programme, plus 2 extra supplements. These focus on blood sugar management and digestion.

The Weight gain programme (gaining weight)

The Weight gain programme focuses on gaining weight with Herbalife shakes and Herbalife snacks. At breakfast and lunch you take a shake in addition to your ‘regular’ meal. Between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner you can have a Herbalife snack.
