Skinnyminds

Goal: to lose about 0.5 - 1 kg per week

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

Skinnyminds

Skinnyminds is a Dutch weight loss method by Mieke Kosters and is a compilation of her earlier books.

On the homepage you can compare this method with different diets.

Not a diet

An important claim of Skinnyminds is that it is not a diet. The creators see it as a method for losing weight by changing behaviour and your mind-set around food.

Lose weight by taking control and choosing the very tastiest things

Following this weight loss method is mainly about being in control. It is also about making conscious choices and not eating out of emotion, boredom or because of social constructs.

An important aspect here is that you only choose what you like best when you want to snack. Things that taste good, but are not your favourite, are left out. In addition, you are supposed to say no to (unhealthy) food at least once a day.

Coaches

Skinnyminds uses (lifestyle) coaches to assist you in following the method. The coaches are trained by Skinnyminds through a coach training course (accredited by the Netherlands Register for Training).

The coaches (try to) help you to change your eating behaviour. It is useful here to know what type of weight-loss person you are.

Weight loss types

Part of the method is to determine which type of weight-loss person you are. There are five different types described:

The princess

The princess has little desire to start losing weight and stops as soon as he/she feels the need to make an effort. This type prefers to lose weight quickly, without much effort or criticism and with good food.

The fearful person

This type is afraid to start losing weight due to fear of failure and/or success.

The genius

The genius knows everything about dieting and has tried everything. Nothing has worked out and this type blames environmental factors, which makes him/her stop losing weight faster.

The perfectionist

This type does not want to make mistakes. He/she is very analytical and controlling. If there’s one screw-up, everything goes wrong. For example, this type can stop trying to lose weight because he/she made one unhealthy choice.

The Recognition Junk

The recognition junk wants appreciation from everyone for losing weight and is very concerned with others. He/she is therefore quick to forget his/her own dietary goals. This type finds it hard to say no and is afraid of criticism.

Online basic course or personal coaching plan (under supervision)

The Skinnyminds website (Dutch) offers both an online basic course and a 6-month personal coaching plan.

Be aware

With the professional help of a dietitian it should be easier to reach your goals. Please contact a dietician in your area or talk to a doctor before starting any diet.

General warnings

Please take note that most diets do not have a scientific basis.

Consult your doctor or dietician before starting a diet, especially if you have a chronic condition like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, lung disease or kidney disease.

Eating disorders

If you think you might have an eating disorder (like anorexia or bulimia), it is important to look for professional help. Contact your (house) doctor or find help elsewhere.
