Goal: to become aware of what you eat and drink

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The Mindfulness Diet

The Mindfulness Diet is a way of thinking about eating. It's about being aware (mindful) of what you eat and why you eat. The idea here is that you only eat or drink when you really need it and that you stop when you are satisfied. You never eat or drink mindlessly.

On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

250 decisions

According to the inventors of this diet, we make about 250 decisions about eating every day. These decisions are made on the basis of different types of hunger (or appetite), which often do not mean that we actually need food or drink. People can eat or drink out of boredom, because of stress or routinely. Mindfulness helps you become aware of this, so you don't overeat.

The 7 types of hunger

The diet distinguishes between eye, nose, mouth, stomach, cell, brain and heart hunger. These types of hunger are related to your senses and emotions. The aim is to make you aware of having these types of hunger and to satiate them all when you are eating or drinking.

Each time you feel hungry, first think calmly about whether you really need something (or whether you want to eat because you are bored, for example). If you decide to eat, then you eat consciously: you take in the food properly by looking at it and paying attention to its taste and smell, among other things.

This book was written for Joanna Kortink, a good writer on food and the reasons why. She is known for her books "Out of the spell of binge eating" and "Out of the spell of emotional eating" 2 well-regarded books within the dietitian world as well. It is good to know if you want to lose weight why you eat and this book will certainly help you with that.
