Het dude diet

Goal: to eat healthier, without missing out on your favourite meals

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

A diet for dudes

The Dude Diet was created by Serena Wolf and is aimed at 'dudes'. These 'dudes' are men who are not enthusiastic about healthy eating or dieting and like fast food and lots of meat. They are men who do not (want to) think about healthy (eating).

On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

Making a dude enthusiastic about healthy(er) eating

The diet was born out of Wolf's attempts to get her boyfriend, a real dude, to eat healthier. This has led to a cookbook with 125 recipes. These are mainly healthier versions of favourite (dude) meals. In the book, Wolf also tries to get the dudes excited about the diet with categories like "on the grill" and "serious salads”.

More awareness

One of Serena Wolf's goals is to make the dude more aware of food. Portion size and balance are important aspects here. Wolf also improves the quality of typical dude meals with different cooking techniques (like using the oven instead of a fryer).

Commandments of the dude diet

The dude diet has 14 commandments. Below are these commandments.

  • I shall think before I put things in my mouth
  • I shall eat more fish, poultry and lean pork
  • I shall not eat a meat in quantities large enough to give me the meat sweats
  • I shall limit my consumption of white bread, rice and pasta and eat more wholegrains.
  • I shall curb my refined sugar habit
  • I shall eat and drink less dairy
  • I shall eat less chips
  • I shall eat 5 portions of vegetables and 3 portions of fruit a day
  • I shall pay attention to sauces, dressings and condiments (use less of them)
  • I shall eat smaller portions
  • I shall eat at a reasonable pace
  • I shall exercise enough
  • I shall drink alcohol responsibly and will keep by beer belly in check
  • I will commit to the dude diet

Recipes

The dishes in the book are mainly those that 'dudes' like to eat, like nachos or chicken wings, but in a healthier way. The meals can usually be made within an hour and mostly within half an hour.
