Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.
When you follow a vegan diet, you do not eat any animal products. This means that you do not eat meat or fish, but also no products that come from animals, such as eggs, dairy products and honey.
On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

Veganism is a way of life in which you do not use any animal products at all. A vegan diet is part of this.
In addition to not consuming any animal products, you do not use any animal products. For example, you do not wear clothes made of wool or leather.
With a vegan diet you replace meat and fish with other products. You have to make sure you consume enough iron, vitamins B1 and B12, protein and fatty acids.
Dairy products (such as cheese, yoghurt and milk), eggs and honey are typical products that are obtained from animals. Other examples are caviar and vanilla. These products should not be eaten in a vegan diet. Insects are also not part of the diet.
Plant-based products (products obtained from plants) may be consumed. Synthetic (made in the lab) products are also allowed, as long as no animal products have been used in the manufacturing process.
An important argument for following a vegan diet is animal welfare. Vegans often object to consuming animals and/or the captivity of animals and/or the use of animals to make animal-based products.
The production of animal products has a higher impact on the environment than the production of plant products. Much more water is needed to make animal products, for example. The sustainable aspect of a vegan diet is therefore a reason for people to start eating vegan.

A third reason given for being on a vegan diet is that eating plant-based products is said to be healthier than eating animal products.
Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any) diet.

Like books, there are many podcast episodes on the vegan diet and lifestyle. On example is this episode (ad link) from The Whole Food Vegan Podcast:
The vegan diet is very similar to the plant-based diet, but is not quite the same. Synthetic products, for example, are avoided in a plant-based diet.
Other examples of diets which (partly) avoid animal products are:
Examples of other diets that are considered sustainable are PureHealth and the Nordic diet.
