The Mono diet

Goal: to lose weight and/or detox

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The Mono diet

A mono diet is a diet that focuses on one specific product. You eat only, or mainly, this one product for a certain period of time, with the aim of losing weight and/or 'detoxing'. Below a list of examples of mono diets.

Duo diet

There are diets that focus on two different products as well. You could call these diets duo diets. Here are some examples of such diets.

Detox

Often a mono-diet is used to "detox". The idea is, in some cases, that the specific product eaten has a 'cleansing effect'. This is claimed in the lemon diet and the watermelon diet, for example. It is not clear how this works exactly.

Crash diet

A mono diet is often a crash diet, because very few calories are eaten. Read how many calories is 'normal' here.

Alternatives to the mono diet

One of the alternatives to the mono diet is the mono-elimination diet. This is a diet where you eliminate one product from your diet instead of using only one.

The monohydration diet is another alternative where you only consume one kind of drink: water. All other drinks, including coffee, tea and soft drinks, are eliminated.

A final variant is the monoswap diet, where you replace one (unhealthy) product in your diet with a healthier one. This is a bit like the principle of the Superfood swap diet.

Be aware

Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any) diet. Do not start a mono- or duo diet just like that. These diets can be dangerous for you.

Mono diet books

Several books have been written on the mono diet or on specific mono diets. We've listed a selection of ad links from Amazon, Apple and Ebooks of such books for you:
