The dr. Ludidi fasting method

Goal: to fast responsibly

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The dr. Ludidi fasting method

The Ludidi method is all about fasting. The model Ludidi has devised focuses on finding a way of fasting that suits you. On the basis of a questionnaire it is determined which fasting protocol and which variant of the protocol suits your lifestyle.

The 5:2 and the 16:8 method

The model uses two methods of fasting that have been known for some time: the 5:2 method and the 16:8 method. These two methods are called ‘protocols’ in the Ludidi fasting method.

The 5:2 protocol

When you follow this fasting protocol you eat ‘normal’ for 5 days a week. The two remaining days you fast.

In the Dr. Ludidi fasting method there are 3 versions of the 5:2 protocol that vary in how much you eat during the 2 fasting days.

The 16:8 protocol

Other than the 5:2 protocol, which is based on days of the week, the 16:8 protocol is based on hours of the day. Here, you eat for 8 hours per day. The other 16 hours you fast.

This is because you only eat during an 8 hour window every day. The rest of the day, 16 consecutive hours, you eat nothing.

As with the 5:2 protocol, the Dr. Ludidi method offers three variants of the 16:8 protocol. These differ in what period of the day you eat.

The variations of the 5:2 protocol and the 16:8 protocol

The 5:2 protocol has a variant in which you eat nothing at all for two days a week, and two variants in which small meals are allowed early or late in the day on fasting days

The 16:8 protocol variants differ in which 8 hours of the day you eat. For example, whether you start eating at 09:00 and stop at 17:00, or whether you start at 12:00 and stop at 20:00.

Questionnaire to determine which protocol is right for you

In order to determine which protocol is right for you, Dr. Ludidi has prepared a questionnaire with 50 questions. This is used to determine whether the 5:2 protocol or the 16:8 protocol and which variant best suits you.

The pre-phase of the fasting method

When you start the Ludidi fasting method, you first go through a pre-phase of one week. In this week you go through 5 steps to prepare yourself for fasting and to develop a healthy eating pattern. Here, you are advised to use unprocessed products, plant-based products and to consume less bread.
