The CICO diet

Goal: to lose weight

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The CICO diet

CICO stands for 'calories in, calories out' and is known from the website Reddit. The diet has a simple principle: you need to consume fewer calories than you burn per day in order to lose weight.

On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

What is a calorie?

A (kilo)calorie is equal to the amount of energy needed to heat water by one degree. Read more about calories here.

Counting calories

When following the CICO diet you keep track of how many calories you consume and how many calories you burn through daily activities and exercise.

It doesn't matter what you eat or drink

When on the CICO diet, it doesn't matter what you eat or drink. Sweets, fast food and soft drinks are all allowed. Only the number of calories is relevant. The idea of CICO is that you will lose weight as long as the number of calories you burn is higher than the number of calories you take in.

Be aware
