Protislank protein diet

Goal: to lose weight

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The Protislank protein diet

The pillars of the diet

Protislank describes three pillars of the diet: Protislank protein products, four different phases of the diet and personal guidance and advice from a dietician or expert.

The four phases of the Protislank protein diet

The diet consists of four different phases: The consistent phase, the moderate phase, the transition phase and the new life phase.

The consistent phase covers 70% of the programme, the moderate phase 20% and the transitional phase 10%. The fourth phase is outside the programme and concerns the period after the diet. The length of each phase depends on the results. There is no prescribed number of days per phase.

Phase 1 - The consistent phase

During the consistent phase you eat 5 Protislank protein products per day (only the products labelled 'phase 1'). In addition to the Protislank products, you eat 250-500 grams of vegetables (from the list of permitted vegetables) per day and possibly some unsweetened soy milk.

The amount of carbohydrates that you are allowed to eat in this phase is very limited: a maximum of 45 grams of carbohydrates a day. In addition, you eat a low amount of fats and drink little or no alcohol.

Phase 2 - The moderate phase

During the moderate phase you eat 4 Protislank-protein products (labelled 'phase 1 and 2' or 'phase 2') and 250-500 gram vegetables per day (from the list of allowed vegetables).

As in the first phase, the amount of carbohydrates should be limited to a maximum of 45 grams per day. However, in this phase you can have a piece of lean meat, fish or meat substitute (100-150 grams) with your evening meal. You can find a list of the permitted types of meat and fish here (in Dutch).

Phase 3 - The transitional phase

During the third phase you eat 2-3 Protislank-protein products a day. In this phase you will reintroduce a 'normal' breakfast (in the first weeks) and a 'normal' lunch (after 2-3 weeks) into your diet.

As in the second phase, you can have a piece of meat or fish for dinner and you eat lots of vegetables. You still limit your carbohydrates, fats and alcohol.

Phase 4 - The new lifestyle phase

In the first two weeks of the fourth and final phase you take 1 to 2 Protislank-protein products a day. Like before, you eat a normal breakfast, lunch and dinner.

After these two weeks you start to add carbohydrates to your diet. You may add 200 grams of potatoes, pasta or rice to your evening meal. In addition, you can replace the Protislank products with 100 grams of dairy or a piece of fruit per day.

At the end of this phase you may have 1-2 glasses of red wine per week again.

Sports

With this diet, it is recommended by the inventors not to exercise intensively while following this diet, because you don't consume enough calories for this. They do advise you to walk or cycle for half an hour to an hour every day.

Eat 5 times a day

While following the diet you will eat about 5 times a day. The advice is to eat something every 2-4 hours. It is also recommended to drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water daily.

Be aware

Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any) diet, especially if you have diabetes. This diet is not suitable for people with kidney problems.
