GOLO diet

Goal: to lose weight

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The GOLO diet

The GOLO diet is a low-calorie diet in which you take special GOLO supplements. The focus of the diet is to regulate insulin (a hormone) and blood sugar levels with the help of GOLO supplements, sport and nutrition.

On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

GOLO diet supplements

The 'GOLO release' supplement consists mainly of magnesium, zinc and chromium. It contains various extracts as well. The supplement is taken during or after each meal and the inventors claim that the supplements help you lose weight.

The 'fuel groups’

The inventors of the GOLO diet describe four fuel groups: proteins, carbohydrates, fats and vegetables. These groups are used when choosing products for each meal.

Fuel group - proteins

The first group is the group of protein products. Examples of products recommended from this group are: meat, poultry, seafood, nuts, dairy products and eggs.

Fuel group - carbohydrates

The second group exists of products containing carbohydrates. This group includes wholemeal products, fruits, (fibre-rich) vegetables and beans.

Fuel group - fats

The third group revolves around fats. Oils and seeds are recommended as sources of fat, olive oil and/or chia seeds for example.

Fuel group - vegetables

The last group contains vegetables. In this group, green vegetables are recommended. Think of broccoli, Brussels sprouts and French beans.

Number of meals per day

The GOLO diet recommends 3 meals a day. Per meal you use 1-2 products from each fuel group. You can make a breakfast with egg, broccoli, olive oil and a piece of fruit for example.

The number of calories in the GOLO diet

The number of calories in the GOLO diet is about 1300 to 1800 calories a day. Read more on the average number of calories per day.

Besides the number of calories per day, portion size is important as well. The diet has rules about how large the portions of the products per fuel group per meal should be.

Sports

The inventors of the diet recommend to exercise 15 minutes per day or 105 per week. Preferably sports with a (very) high intensity.

Be aware

Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any) diet, especially if you are on medication or have diabetes.
