Beer and sausage diet

Goal: To lose weight

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The beer and sausage diet

The beer and sausage diet was invented by Evo Terra. He was inspired by monks who only drank beer during Lent and wanted to do the same. On the advice of his doctor he added sausages to the diet.

On the homepage you can compare this diet with other diets.

The Oktoberfest diet

Terra followed the diet for the first time in October 2011, partly because October is the month of the Oktoberfest. The diet is therefore also called the "Oktoberfest diet". Other names for this diet are the "beer diet" and the "beer and sausage diet".

Drinking beer and eating sausages for a month

Evo eats and drinks 1-2 sausages and 5-6 beers a day for a month. He alternates between different kinds of sausages, for example: Italian sausages, hot dogs or bratwurst. He also drinks different types of special beer. Terra says that he loses weight because his daily intake is 600 calories less than he needs. Read more on daily caloric intake here.

The rules of the diet

The rules given in the book are:

  • Eat and drink about 30 g of protein a day
  • Drink quality beer
  • Limit the number of calories to around 1700 per day

Besides beer Evo drinks water during the diet.

It does not matter what you eat

Terra, and the doctor who supervised him (Dr. Terry Simpson), say that it does not matter much what you eat and drink if you want to lose weight, as long as you do it in moderation. Terra claims to have demonstrated this by only drinking beer and eating sausages instead of products considered healthy, while still losing weight.

Supplements

Sausage and beer do not contain enough nutrients for a healthy diet. Terra therefore takes supplements (including vitamins and minerals).

The Beer and Sausage Diet can be compared to the Subway diet. This diet also does not make use of healthy products to lose weight and is focussed on reducing the daily caloric intake.
