The Egg diet

Goal: to lose weight in 1-2 weeks

Be aware: this is only the goal of this diet, not necessarily its outcome. Results vary from person to person. Consult your doctor or dietician before starting this (or any other) diet.

The Egg diet

There are many variants of the egg diet. Below, you can find three of those variants:

  1. Janneke's egg diet
  2. The 'Super Skinny Grapefruit and Egg' diet
  3. The boiled egg diet.

Via the homepage you can compare the Egg diet with other diets.

A 1 or 2-week crash diet

The egg diet is a real crash diet. Your calorie intake is very low, which should lead you to lose weight. Read more how many calories a day is regarded normal here.

Depending on the variant, the diet lasts 1 or 2 weeks: Janneke's egg diet lasts 1 week, the Super Skinny Grapefruit and Egg diet and the boiled egg diet last 2 weeks.

More protein, less fat and less carbohydrates

Because you eat a lot of eggs with this diet, you consume a lot of protein. Carbohydrates and fats are consumed (much) less.

In several versions it is recommended to choose low-carb vegetables above other vegetables and the use of butter or oil when preparing your egg is discouraged.

Version 1: Janneke's egg diet (1 week)

Janneke's egg diet lasts one week. Grapefruit plays an important role in this version of the egg diet: you eat a grapefruit at every breakfast and several times in the afternoon.

The menu of Janneke's egg diet

The diet consists of a 7-day menu. You can find the menu here (in Dutch). Below we give a short description.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Breakfast is the same every day: one grapefruit with 1-2 eggs (except on the first day: here you consume 3 eggs). Lunch varies every day. Usually eggs with a salad or vegetables. Dinner is usually a piece of meat or fish with vegetables and sometimes eggs.

As for drinks, the options are limited to: water, tea and coffee (without milk or sugar, but sweeteners are allowed). Alcohol is not allowed.

Preparing the eggs

In Janneke's version of the egg diet, you can prepare your eggs any way you like, except that you may not add other products and you may not use butter or oil. You are, however, allowed to use spices.

Version 2: The Super Skinny Grapefruit and Egg Diet Plus (2 weeks)

This version was created by Hillary Michaels and is described in the book The Super Skinny Grapefruit and Egg Diet Plus.

Lose weight, grapefruit and low-carb vegetables and fruits

The goal of this variant is to lose about 12-13 kg in 2 weeks (note: this is only the goal of the diet, not necessarily the outcome). Besides eggs, you eat grapefruit, lean meat (think of chicken and turkey) and low-carb vegetables and fruits. In addition to these products, you are allowed a small amount of cereals and yoghurt.

Apart from water, coffee and tea, you can also drink grapefruit juice is this version of the diet.

Version 3: Boiled egg diet

In this version you eat (hard) boiled eggs, fish, chicken, turkey and low-carb vegetables/fruits. Snacks are not allowed. The goal of this variant is to lose about 10-11 kg in 2 weeks (note: this is only the goal of the diet, not necessarily the outcome).

Hard-boiled eggs

This version does not allow you to prepare your eggs any way you like: only hard-boiled eggs are allowed.

Boiled egg diet books

Sports

Exercising while on this diet is difficult. Because your calorie intake is very low, you have little energy to move around.
